What's a vegetable or fruit serving?

Canada's Food Guide to Healthy Eating recommends that we eat 5 to 10 servings of vegetable and fruits each day. Although that may sound like a lot, one serving isn't as large as you may think. Follow these simple guidelines to help you visualize one serving:

  • ½ cup (125mL) of vegetables or fruit (cooked, canned or fresh)
  • 1 cup (250mL) of raw leafy vegetables (lettuce, spinach or cabbage)
  • 1 medium size vegetable or fruit (apple, tomato or orange)
  • ½ cup (125mL) fruit juice
  • ¼ cup of dried fruit (raisins or apricots)
  • One can (156mL) of V8® Original, V8® V-Go™ or Low Sodium V8® Vegetable Cocktail
  • One cup (250mL) of Campbell's® Healthy Request® Tomato Garden Vegetable soup
